When trouble comes…

Mark 8: 22 is the story of Jesus calming the storm. This first thing that strikes me about this story is Jesus specifically said to the disciples, “Let’s go to the other side of the lake.” Jesus knew what was going to happen and set up this test for the disciples and an opportunity to show his glory. While they were in the boat Jesus decides to take a little nap, while He’s resting a huge storm comes and “they were in great danger.” Then they wake up Jesus and He first calms the wind and the waves and then rebukes the disciples for their lack of faith.

So how does this relate to our lives today?

First, Jesus was fully in control and He knew exactly what was going to happen before it happened, and the same is true today. He wasn’t surprised when the storm came or when the disciples woke Him up.

Also, Jesus didn’t calm the waves right away, He waited. He’ll do the same in our lives. At the first sign of trouble He won’t just swoop in and magically save the day. The wind and the waves of our storms (troubles) are all God’s and it’s all part of His plan. We need to trust God in the storm and out of the storm, and trust in His plan. As a result, His glory will be seen and He will be honored.

Trust in the LORD with all your heart  and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. -Proverbs 3:5-6

So, who do you trust in and out of trouble?
