This morning I was reading the Bible, the book of Jonah. I personally, love this story, so I have read this book over and over again, but as always, God showed me something today that I had never really noticed before.
We all know this story, God told Jonah to go talk to the people living in Nineveh, but Jonah didn’t like them so he decided to get on a boat sailing in the exact opposite direction, to Tarshish. While he’s on the boat, God sends a storm because Jonah is disobedient. When the sailors find out that the storm is because of Jonah’s disobedience, they throw him overboard, and immediately the waters become still and the storm stops.
“Then the men feared the Lord exceedingly, and they offered a sacrifice to the Lord and made vows.” -Jonah 1:16
Many people skip over this verse in order to get to the Jonah being eaten by a fish part, but I think this verse is extremely important. God was fully in control of this situation. God knew Jonah, what he was going to do, and God used his disobedience to bring these sailors to repentance.
Now, I’m not saying that we should be disobedient so that God’s plan will happen through us. No. I’m amazed that the fact that even when we are disobedient, God’s plan prevails in spite of us.
Thank God that His plan alone will stand.
