I think sometimes as Christians we forget how much privilege we have through the new covenant. I think that’s probably one of the reasons that God put the Old Testament in the Bible- to remind us how blessed we really are.
In 1 Samuel the Philistines captured the Ark of the Covenant. The Ark of the Covenant had the 10 commandments in it, and God rested above the Ark. After the Philistines captured it, they were afflicted with boils and tumors and obviously wanted to get rid of it. They sent the Ark to the field of Joshua of Beth-shemesh. Because some of the men looked directly at the Ark, God killed 70 men. In response the other people said “Who is able to stand before the Lord, this holy God?” (1 Samuel 6:20)
This is completely different from how the Christian can approach God through the New Covenant. In the Old Testament the Israelites couldn’t approach God directly, they needed a high priest or else they would die. We have a better High Priest- Jesus. Because of His work on the cross we can stand before God with great joy!
Jude 24-25 Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbing and to present you blameless before the presence of His glory with great joy, to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen.
This is an awesome privilege that we’ve been granted! So make sure to not take our position in the New Covenant lightly.
Thank God for His AMAZING GRACE that he’s freely given to us!
