That green-eyed monster

Posted by

We’ve all heard that jealousy is that green-eyed monster, a trait that none of us desire. If a person is jealous we tend to limit the time we spend with them. When I think of jealousy, I think of that psycho controlling girlfriend that we’ve all seen in movies and dislike (if you’re that person, I’m sorry). Jealousy is also a trait that many people don’t want to associate with God because it is such a negative quality. I, personally, am glad that God is a jealous God. Many people don’t even believe that it’s in the Bible, but Exodus 20:5 says:

“You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God…”

I’m glad that this verse is in the Bible because it means that God is jealous for me! He loves me so much that He wasn’t content for me to go to hell, so He sent Jesus to die on the cross for my sins. Now that I’ve repented and accepted Christ, and I’m a child of God, He wants my attention. He’s not okay with me worshipping anyone or anything other than Him! When I focus on God, things are better for me. So, God’s jealousy for me brings Him glory and is for my benefit.

The great thing is, He’s jealous for you too! He wants your attention, your adoration, your praise. God loves you and wants to have a relationship with you. So, my question is, have you given your life to God, who is jealous for you? If not, do it. Pray, ask forgiveness for your sins, and acknowledge that God is the Lord of your life, not you. If you’ve already accepted Christ as your savior, my question to you is: are you giving God the attention He deserves? Because He is jealous for you!
