Lately I’ve been feeling somewhat distant from God. During prayer or praise and worship or even just going through my daily life, I haven’t felt that touch from God that I’ve been used to for the past few months. Finally, this morning during prayer, I got fed up with that. That lack of intimacy wasn’t acceptable anymore, I became desperate for God’s touch, and prayed that God would show me that thing that I’ve been holding back from Him. And He did. Lately, He’s been showing me some things that I honestly don’t want to do. I’ve been ignoring His voice and His direction, but that all stopped this morning. I finally prayed, like Jesus did, “Not my will, but Yours be done”. There’s an incredible freedom that comes when you get rid of that thing that you’ve been holding on to. In this instance I was holding onto pride, the pompous idea that my will, my ideas, were better than God’s.
Hebrews 12:1 says:
“…let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us”.
This verse says “every weight that slows us down”, which can be a sin, or just something that isn’t good for our relationship with God. If you’re feeling distant from God, examine your heart and ask Him to show you what is out of place in your life that is affecting your level of intimacy with Him. Let me tell you that He is worth far more than whatever it is you’re holding onto.
So my question to you is: If there’s something holding you back, are you willing to give it up for the surpassing greatness of Christ?
