Being sick sucks.
While no one enjoys being sick, there tends to be two responses when a bug hits: isolation or clinginess. There are those who want to be taken care of when they’re under the weather and those who just want to be left alone. I’m definitely the latter. I began feeling sick late last week and immediately left work and went straight to bed. I barely said anything to anyone because I am of the “I can take care of me” mentality. I have friends who are the opposite and need someone to be around them and take care of them to make them feel better. But, no matter which type of sick person you are, I’m sure you can agree that being sick is just no fun.
While I’m feeling much better today than I was last week, I’m still not 100%. But, I do have to say, this little bug is making me appreciate my health. I’m realizing just how easy it can be to focus on what we don’t have and forget to see all we do have. Over the past few days, I’ve been doing all I can to fight for my health because I am noticeably lacking in that area. I’ve come to realize that I take my health for granted.
We have the ability to choose health.
For some, choosing health can be more difficult than it is for others but, no matter what ailments or issues you’re predisposed to, we can all pursue health. This isn’t just limited to our physical bodies, but we should work toward health in all areas of our lives.
In our bodies we can choose health.
In our minds we can choose health.
In our relationships we can choose health.
In our finances we can choose health.
In our emotions we can choose health.
In our spiritual walk we can choose health.
A healthy life is worth pursuing because you are worth it. I am worth it. This fact, while it may seem rudimentary, has changed my life. Hear me when I say: you are worth it, you deserve to pursue health. Staying in a state of sickness in any area isn’t the life that God has called us to. In the Bible, Jesus even said that he came to save the sick, not the healthy. If you’re sick in any area, come to him with it. Don’t hide your symptoms from the ultimate Healer, expose those things to him, and ask him to heal you. It usually involves a process, hard work, and time, but striving for a healthier life is always worth it. Health is important and needs to be cherished and cared for each day.
Lord, you are our ultimate Healer; we can have health because of you. Forgive us for the times when we’ve taken this for granted and neglected our physical, mental, emotional, relational, and spiritual health. We bring our broken and unhealthy pieces of our hearts and lives to you and ask that you begin to do your healing work. Thank you that you have made a way for us to be healthy and experience all this life has for us. Please be with us as we make the courageous moves toward a healthy life each and every day. Amen!
