Have you ever walked outside in the height of spring only to be launched into a full-fledged sneezing attack? If you haven’t experienced this, you’re lucky. I have pretty bad allergies and I’ve joked with people that I’m allergic to everything. While that’s an exaggeration, it’s not all that far from the truth. Because of this and my chosen hobbies, I’ve spent most of my life indoors; I feel comfortable inside. But, over the last few years, I’ve grown to absolutely love being in nature. I love being able to go on hikes or walks or watch the sunset or stare at the stars as the light up the night sky.
“The heavens declare the glory of God;
the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
Day after day they pour forth speech;
night after night they reveal knowledge.
They have no speech, they use no words;
no sound is heard from them.
Yet their voice goes out into all the earth,
their words to the ends of the world.”
Every time I’m outside I can’t help but look around and be in awe of what God has created. The beautiful sky, the rich array of plants and animals, and it’s all topped off by his greatest creation: mankind. Have you ever taken a moment to look at how varied we are? We have different body and face shapes, facial features are similar yet distinct, eye, hair, and skin colors are all unique combinations that come together to make each person a little different than the others. Even identical twins aren’t exactly the same, there’s something unique about each one of them if you take a moment or two to look closely.
Creation is revealing the glory of God and showing his handiwork for all to see. His love is written in the sky, his grace can be felt in a gentle breeze and his compassion can be found in the shade of a tree on a hot day. Creation can’t help but point back to the God who created it all, so how can we do anything less? I, personally, don’t want to be outdone by a rock, especially given all that God has done for me!
Let’s choose to be thankful for creation today, no matter the physical circumstances around us. How can you see God’s love reflected in creation today?
Lord, I am amazed at all you’ve created! Wow! You’re so much bigger than I can even fathom! Forgive us for those times when we’ve neglected to acknowledge your glory that is being expressed all around us. Thank you for always welcoming us back when we’ve fallen and continuously wooing us to yourself. Help us today to see you clearly in the world around us. Thank you for always speaking to us! Amen!
