I remember sitting at the table in my dining nook one morning while my roommates were still asleep and writing this back in 2013. I felt so unsure and unsteady at that time but I was still looking to God for his guidance and trusting that he knew better than I did.
And, honestly, today I’m still pretty unsure of what the future holds for me. But I know the character of God is good and loving and perfect so I can trust him during these foggy seasons.
This morning I was reading the book of Ezra. Ezra was a scribe who loved God, studied his word, and felt called to teach the people of Israel and bring them back to God. Ezra 7:28 really stood out to me. It says:
“I took courage, for the hand of the Lord my God was on me, and I gathered leading men from Israel to go up with me.”
Ezra knew that God was with him. He was certain God had his back and was going to protect and take care of him. That enabled him to take courage and do what God was calling him to do. God didn’t give him an extra dose of courage but presented Ezra an opportunity to be courageous.
I had this thought while I was reading this morning: What would I do right now if I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that God was backing me? What steps would I take towards my dreams if I was 100% sure that God was with me?
As I was thinking about these questions, I was reminded of Romans 8:37:
“…In all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.”
No matter what, we are more than conquerors. His love has secured the victory though we did exactly none of the work to earn it. In him, we can overcome.
Where are you at today? Whether things are great or lousy or somewhere in between, the truth is that God is consistently good and faithful regardless of how we feel and what our circumstances look like.
What would you do if you believed that you were more than a conqueror? What step would you take if you had full confidence that God was backing you? Would you choose to forgive? Step up and obey? Worship freely?
The good news is that we are more than conquerors, so let’s choose to live that way!
Great reminder!
