It goes without saying that this has been a difficult year all around. But I think pastors and church leaders are probably some of the most overlooked people who have given so much in this season.
For a second, let’s put ourselves in the shoes of a pastor leading a congregation of people. Leading, caring for, and dealing with people is hard enough when things are good, but it becomes especially difficult during times of crisis. Not only are they dealing with their own struggles and having to process through this tragic time (they are people with feelings too), but they have to figure out how to lead a group of people. There’s probably no seminary classes on how to pastor during a pandemic, so they’re flying pretty blind. I’m sure they are just as overwhelmed by the news and unsure who to listen to, all while being torn in multiple directions by the flock they pastor. There’s no way they can make everyone happy—and people are all too eager to voice their dissatisfaction. The toll of the last year is overwhelming. The exhaustion is almost too much.
Today, I am praying for:
- My pastor and the leaders of my church
- That they would clearly hear the voice of God
- Be filled with courage to follow God’s leading
- Strength and renewed energy (Isaiah 40:29-31)
How can you serve your pastor/church leaders this week?
What is God saying to you?
Thank you for sharing your prayer journey. Pastors need prayer so much now as they lead and minister to the church during a challenging time.

What a heavy but beautiful mantle to carry! I’m grateful that we can cover them in prayer while they pour out to others.
