I have to laugh while looking back through what we’ve been praying for this month. When I felt this call to pray for all people, I felt so certain that God was going to show me specific groups each day that needed prayer, but more and more I just keep coming back to praying for myself and praying for the church. I feel like God is exposing things in this season because he wants to restore us. He wants to do some healing in us first so then we can take healing to others. Before we can point people to freedom, we must be freed ourselves.
So, today my prayer is really simple. I am praying Psalm 139:23-24 over myself and sitting in silence, waiting for God to speak. In the past, I’ve prayed these verses but haven’t taken the time to really sit and listen for God’s response. I don’t think I’ve always given him the space and the clear invitation to do the hard heart-work necessary. But today I want to do that.
I encourage you to do the same. Pray these verses, sit and be still, and see what the Holy Spirit reveals. Then, just respond accordingly. Let’s allow him to cleanse, heal, restore, and free us before we try to heal, restore, and free anyone else.
“Search me, O God, and know my heart!
Try me and know my thoughts!
And see if there be any grievous way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting!” Psalm 139:23-24 (ESV)
What is God saying to you?
