Timothy had a great calling on his life, yet Paul knew that Timothy, as we do, had the tendency to want to shrink back from that call and remain inactive, a much less terrifying place to be. God has called us to be fearless and fight that tendency to stay stuck. But it’s so much more than that! Fear usually leads to rash or unwise decisions but God has given us the tools to fight against that as well: power, love, a calm mind, a well-balanced mind, discipline, and self-control.
Despite your present circumstance, know that you are the apple of His eye, His precious child, and don’t let anyone or anything tell you any different. Cry out to Him in the middle of your wilderness, ask Him to meet you in the middle of your “waste” and wait to see what He will do. He surely won’t disappoint.
What is God calling you to do? Even though it may be scary, get out from behind your “baggage”. Don’t think that your past disqualifies you from doing amazing things, in fact, your specific set of experiences may be what uniquely qualifies you to do something incredible. Don’t let your baggage hold you back, step out in faith and be amazed at what God can do through you!
